About
the Class You Observed
1. How much time is devoted each day to instruction
in the classroom? Describe the class periods (if applicable)? Choose a content
area of your specialty or major. How much time is devoted to teaching that
subject? There were not any class
periods, the class typically starts around 8am and end around 2:30pm. The class
is typically having short lessons and the classroom work on their assignments,
I noticed the class is very dependent on using technology and even during
recess the students would be allowed to play online games that they are allowed
on the computer. Overall, I feel classrooms are becoming more technology based
even for a elementary class.
2. Is there any ability grouping or tracking?
If so, please describe how it affects your class.
During the time I was in the
classroom, the teacher would group the students due to their behaviors, she
would keep the quiet students together, the students who are curious and enjoy
talking, and students who like to ask questions and need some extra attention.
3. Identify any textbook or instructional
program you primarily use for instruction. If a textbook, please provide the
title, publisher, and date of publication.
N/A we used multiple textbooks in
the classroom, but summer has started so the class is now over.
4. List other resources (e.g., SMARTBoard, manipulatives,
online resources) used for instruction in this class. SMARTboard was used in
the classroom as well the teacher would have the students email her the
assignment through the school website.
5.
What do you know about what your students know, what can they do, and what are they learning to
do? What do you know about your students’ everyday experiences, cultural
backgrounds and practices, and interests? The classroom had many cultures
within the classroom during the time I was in the classroom. The students were
very lively, and it made me smile due to the reason that I know someday I will
be around students similar to them and I will be teaching the students, helping
them and bettering the students education. I was only in the classroom for a
short period of time but overall the classroom was exciting.
6.
Describe one teaching event. What best practices in teaching were used? I have
not gone to any teaching events yet.
