My have students have been learning about creating music through an app called “GarageBand.” They have experience reading music notation and have learned about musical genres. My students are primarily white (about 80%) and the rest are Hispanic and Black. Most of my 7th graders are very involved in a sport of have many after school activities they participate.

When they were collaborating, learning from one another what their favorite instrument was. They did research on this and presented it to the class. Classes before, they got together in groups and collected information about this instrument. When they did their presentations, students were very attentive and there was a Q&A at the end. Students were able to ask questions to their peers, whenever something was unclear I will step in and clarify and/or give more details about a certain instrument.
