Module 3
This week we read chapter 7 and 13, they were really good.
Chapter 7 was about understanding learning and behavior strategies. Learning occurs in different ways. I like how the book stated, "When we think of learning we immediately think of subjects or skills to master." We don't necessarily think of the other ways of learning such as babies kicking if they need something, learning the lyrics to new songs. We learn every single day, but we just don't realize it. When I was little my mom use to say we learn something new everyday because she taught that now and then I look back through my day to realize what I did actually learn. Even if it's something small like learning a new lyric of a song or how to pick up fruit I feel grateful that I am able to learn these things. Sometimes I feel like students at school don't understand how lucky they are to be in school when kids their age are dying to learn something that small all around the world.
Chapter 7 also discussing behavior strategies. It also covers reinforcing aspect as well as the punish and reward strategy. I like having a reward system in classes like tickets or stickers. My siblings get panther paws which are slips to save up to buy homework passes its really fun and enjoyable for the students to keep their behavior in check.
Chapter 13 talks about classroom management. Classroom management in my opinion is the most important responsibility taking place in your classroom. The way you set your classroom and rules is the outcome of behavior in your class. The book mentions the environment of your classroom, maintaining, prevention and precaution of what is happening in your room. This chapter reminded me of my old teacher telling us how she keeps her class in order she told us she wants to see everything and makes sure all the classroom closet doors are opened wide so she can be cautious of whats happening if any of her students are there. I thought this was so dramatic, but thinking about it over and over again, now I am saying what a great idea she had to manage her classroom.
